Costain Nitrogen Rejection
With increasing demand for natural gas and reducing availability of gas sources with minimum contamination, more operators are considering the use of natural gas containing Nitrogen that has been previously not developed due to the depressed calorific value of the gas. The presence of Nitrogen in natural gas also increases the size of gas compression facilities, pipelines and processing plant. It leads to poor combustion if present in high amounts, and so the quantity of Nitrogen in natural gas is normally limited, for commercial or domestic use, to 4-5%.
Nitrogen, however, cannot be removed from natural gas in the same manner as other impurities such as CO2 or acid gases; by washing with absorbent. For large flowrates, the only effective means of removing the Nitrogen is by low temperature distillation and physical separation of the Nitrogen from the Methane product.
Costain has over thirty years of experience in design and supply of a number of processing plants designed to remove Nitrogen from natural gas using a variety of processes selected to suit the particular nature of the gas to be processed. Costain's experience enables them to offer the most efficient and reliable process to achieve the product specification requirements.
